Information
So you’re a Perfume fan? That’s great me too let’s be friends.
Perfume is best described as a near-futuristic-but-with-remnants-of-shibuya-kei-infused-with-japanese-and-electropop girl band originating from Hiroshima.
Formed in 2001, these girls met at the local performing arts school and for the first 5 years life was hard.
Originally a heavily traditional/standard Japanese idol girl group, their earlier stuff wasn’t as great. In fact back in Hiroshima when they debuted, only 5 people showed up to see (3 were store employees, that’s how the story goes).
Fast foward to 2006, and Perfume gets a nice break from the dear Kaela Kimura because she repeated their songs such as Chocolate Disco, which weren’t astronomical successes.
Because of this, a TV producer heard Perfume and then decided to use the girls and their song Polyrhythm in an ad. Video here. Polyrhythm reaches #4 on the Oricon Charts.
Following Polyrhythm came Baby crusing love, hitting #3 on the charts and with that saw the release of GAME, debuting at #1, a feat that hasn’t been achieved in around 15 years and finally bringing Perfume real national fame. The rest is history, which can be checked out via their wikipedia.
Perfume, congratulations on finally achieving success!
